Rekeying vs. Changing Locks

Many homeowners assume they need to replace their locks to change the key. This is often unnecessary. Rekeying is a process where we remove the lock cylinder, discard the old internal pins, and insert new pins that match a fresh key. The old key will no longer work, but you keep your existing hardware. This is a cost-effective way to secure a new home or restrict access after a roommate moves out.

Smart Lock Integration

Keyless entry is the future of home security. We specialize in smart lock installation. Proper alignment is critical for these devices; if the bolt rubs against the frame, the battery drains rapidly and the motor can fail. We install the lock, align the strike plate perfectly, and help you integrate the device with your WiFi or Z-Wave home automation system.

Frequently Asked Questions

• Should I rekey my new house? Yes. You have no way of knowing who has a copy of the old key—contractors, neighbors, or previous owners. Rekeying ensures you are the only one with access.
• Can you make one key work for all doors? Yes. If your locks share the same keyway (brand profile), we can rekey them all to a single master key, eliminating the need for a bulky keychain.
• What is a "bump-proof" lock? Lock bumping is a technique burglars use to open standard locks. We can install high-security cylinders with sidebars or specialized pins that are resistant to bumping and picking.
• Do you install deadbolts on doors without them? Yes. We perform fresh installations, drilling the necessary holes in the door and frame to add a deadbolt for added security.
• How long does it take to rekey a house? It depends on the number of locks, but typically we can rekey an average-sized home in 1 to 2 hours.Call for a free estimate
